Greatly inspired by world music, Wilco Oomkes began playing the accordion at age 7. Having already achieved a bachelor degree in classical accordion with minors in jazz and education, he continued with masters at the Royal Conservatoire of The Hague, where he graduated cum laude in june 2019 with a 9+/10 with a special distinction in “artistic and diverse musicianship and entrepeneurship”.
Diversity and versatility in music are the most important things for him, and that’s what he searches for in every project that he does. He works as a freelance accordion player, arranger/composer and a session musician who also teaches, and performs regularly with theatrical productions, classical music stages, his ensemble Butwhatabout and with his band OT AZOJ.
Wilco is a pure Dutch guy, although he prefers walking over taking the bike. For example: he always does his groceries by foot, not on the bike.
